Kelechi Ezie is a proud native of Buffalo, New York - which is WESTERN, not Upstate, for all those interested. She does enjoy the Bills and of course chicken wings, but refuses to eat them outside of her hometown.
The daughter of a Nigerian father and a Buffalonian mother, she and her three siblings were always encouraged to pursue artistic activities in addition to their rigorous academic schedule. Kelechi was a voracious reader and straight A student, but far from extroverted (which remains true today). As a little girl she competed in piano competitions at her local music school. As a teen, she began winning public speaking awards for her own original compositions, as well as singing in statewide and national voice competitions.
Kelechi went on to Princeton University, graduating cum laude in History with certificates in Theatre & Dance and African American Studies. As an undergrad Kelechi received a grant to conduct research in London, culminating in her original thesis Reading What Is There: Africans in Early Modern England which was awarded Princeton’s Walter Phelps Hall Prize in European History. She also made a splash starring in Princeton productions like Carousel and Fences, and rocking out with Shere Khan a capella.
Kelechi wrote, co-produced and starred in award-winning short film The Truth About Beauty and Blogs, which was an official selection of Ebertfest and her first ever screenplay. Kelechi played Mrs. Brown BOOK OF MORMON FIRST NATIONAL TOUR, and recently appeared in the recurring role Letitia on HBO's The Deuce, Season 2.
She is host of Cake and Kombucha Podcast. Follow her on @kelezie and subscribe at your local podcast factory. Apple, Spotify, and Soundcloud :)
