I am so tired, I didn't think I could say anything about the Tamir Rice case. I know many of us are very tired, fatigued, and frightened. And then I went to jog around my mother's neighborhood with my brother - a reclusive little enclave in the burbs of Raleigh where you wave to any car or passerby. We'd been seeing friends and running errands all day so it was getting dark by the time we laced up our shoes to leave. And my brother, eager to to jog while it was still a bit light, just as we're leaving said - "wait, let me grab my ID." And there you have it. The sweetest, most polite, well mannered young man I know, nonchalantly, reflexively, takes his ID with him to jog around a gated community, that he lived in for 10 plus years, where people know him, know us. When I asked why he was looking for his wallet, why we couldn't hurry up and leave. he chided me for lacking what he regards as simple common sense. His common sense survival.
